About me

"I’m Jerald, and I work at the intersection of intelligent software and real-world engineering systems. My background is somewhat unusual. On one side, I am a hands-on mechanical and additive manufacturing engineer. On the other, I bring more than 25 years of experience in solutions consulting, technical training and stakeholder engagement across multiple industries. I recently earned a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in Design with Additive Engineering, from the Singapore Institute of Technology and the University of Glasgow. Before completing my degree, I spent a year at A*STAR SIMTech working on metal additive manufacturing research using laser powder bed fusion, or PBF-LB/M. I supported studies from end to end: preparing builds, conducting metallographic examinations, carrying out mechanical testing and delivering traceable datasets aligned with ASTM and ISO standards. I am proficient in SolidWorks, Materialise Magics and ANSYS, and I have worked with metal, polymer and concrete 3D-printing technologies. This experience gives me a strong understanding of the physical engineering foundation required for emerging fields such as Physical AI, where intelligent systems must interact reliably with machines, materials and real-world environments. My broader experience spans precision engineering, oil and gas, construction technology and education technology. I have delivered technical solutions, led training programmes and advised stakeholders across Asia. This combination allows me to take an idea from the laboratory to the shop floor, translate it into practical learning, and develop a convincing business case around it. I have also applied emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality in practical settings, including the development of an AI-enabled learning web application. As a mentor, I can support individuals aspiring to careers in engineering, research and development, oil and gas, learning and development, and science and technology. I aim to help mentees strengthen their analytical thinking, communication and presentation skills while developing clearer career goals, greater professional confidence and a practical plan for achieving their ambitions."
