About this programme

The School of Life (TSOL) is Praxium’s flagship initiative, co-created with youths and experienced mentors to complement traditional academia. This 10-week program goes beyond textbooks, focusing on developing real-world life skills often overlooked in day-to-day curricula.

We believe life skills are best taught and caught in experiences specially designed to mimic real-life intergenerational interactions. Unlike regular school and typical enrichment classes elsewhere, classes at TSOL comprise youths from a mix of ages engaging in facilitated interdisciplinary learning, discussions and collaboration. This encourages healthy role-modeling by senior youths, and reverse mentoring from younger peers.

At the core of TSOL is hands-on learning and metacognition ("reflective thinking"), where participants reflect on their real-life experiences, observations and thought processes; refine strategies, and develop personalized problem-solving approaches. This empowers them to cultivate a mindset for lifelong learning, build self-awareness, resilience, and decision-making skills—critical for thriving in an ever-changing world.

Key takeaways

The School of Life (TSOL) Programme Summary

Over 10 modules, Praxium successfully delivered The School of Life (TSOL), our flagship experiential life-skills programme designed to equip youths aged 13–20 with the competencies needed to thrive beyond the classroom.

Through weekly small-group sessions, industry exposure visits, guided reflection, and hands-on activities, participants engaged in learning experiences centred around four key pillars: Self-Awareness & Self-Mastery, People Skills, Financial Literacy, and Career Readiness.

Programme Highlights

  1. Youths participated in experiential workshops that encouraged them to better understand their strengths, values, and aspirations.
  2. Participants developed practical communication, collaboration, and leadership skills through group challenges and peer-learning activities.
  3. Financial literacy sessions introduced budgeting, saving, and investing concepts, helping youths build confidence in making informed financial decisions.
  4. Career readiness activities included exposure to different industries, workplace visits, and conversations with professionals, enabling participants to gain clearer perspectives on future education and career pathways.
  5. Small cohort sizes fostered meaningful relationships, allowing participants to learn from one another while receiving personalised guidance from facilitators and mentors.

Impact Observed

Throughout the programme, participants demonstrated increased confidence in expressing themselves, greater self-awareness regarding their goals and personal growth areas, and stronger ownership over their future plans.

Many youths shared that the programme provided a safe space to explore important life questions that are often not addressed in traditional academic settings. Through reflection and action-based learning, participants gained practical tools to navigate challenges, build resilience, and make more intentional decisions about their futures.

Looking Ahead

TSOL continues to address an important gap between academic learning and life readiness by providing young people with opportunities to develop essential life skills through real-world experiences. We are grateful to our funders and supporters whose partnership has enabled youths to access transformative learning experiences that empower them to discover their purpose, build confidence, and take meaningful steps toward their aspirations.
