Join this informal dialogue with a filmmaker, an artist, and a designer as they discuss how they have navigated pursuing a creative career in Singapore. Hear about the ups and downs in their journey and what the future of creative work might be like. You’ll also get the chance to ask questions, explore career pathways, and connect with others who are excited about creative careers.

Who Should Attend

Youth under 30 who are curious about creative work in art, design, or media. Whether you’re already creating your own crafts or content, or simply wondering what the future of creative work is like in Singapore, this session is for you. 

Parents of teens are also welcome — bring along anyone 13 or older!

Panelists

Cheng Chai Hong - Filmmaker

Cheng Chai Hong is a Singaporean director and screenwriter. His commercial work includes projects for Singapore Tourism Board, Changi Airport Group, Temasek Foundation International, and Lazada.  Alongside his commercial portfolio, his work on popular indie comedy web series ”Average Guys” and ”Neighbourhood Watch Task Force” has also led to a career in social and digital media, serving as Creative Manager for social media page SGAG.

He co-founded the collective Extraordinary Moviemaking Division (EMD), which is in post-production for his debut feature film, “We Can Save The World!!!”

Dorcas Tang - Artist

Dorcas is an award-winning artist, illustrator and picture book author based in Singapore. Through picture books, murals and graphics, her work bridges art and sustainable wellbeing in gentle, whimsical ways.

Besides creating art, Dorcas is an active speaker and has given talks and been on panel discussions, locally and internationally. She believes that art has a special power to spread joy, and is dedicated to sharing that joy wherever she goes.

Layla Wei - Designer

From working in marketing, to media content creation, to being an art director, Layla has done it all. Moving on from a creative advertiser and content creator, she now focuses on crafting well-designed products. As a creative professional, she values the impact that good design and application of creative skills can have on our daily lives.

Her most recent venture is to create well-designed physical products, such as Piper, the world’s best designer pepper grinder.
