Frequently asked questions

Time isn’t always on their side. They often have to provide accurate coverage as quickly as possible.

You may choose your focus. General assignment reporting covers a wide range of topics, while specialised reporting focuses on specific areas like health, crime, or politics.

News reporters are a subset of journalists. They focus on writing and presenting news events, while journalists might cover diverse topics for newspapers, magazines, the internet, and television. For example, writing for 8 Days magazine makes you a journalist, but writing for The Straits Times newspaper makes you a news reporter.

They must ensure their stories are factually correct, remain unbiased, and provide multiple perspectives.

Not always. While live on-site reporting is common for breaking news or major events, reporters may also report from newsrooms or remote interviews.
