Deputy Public Prosecutors are appointed to assist the Public Prosecutor in carrying out prosecutorial and other duties by working closely with Law enforcement agencies concerning criminal matters.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Job Description
  • Prosecute criminal offences.
  • Review evidence secured by Law Enforcement agencies.
  • Provide Legal advice to the Government on criminal matters.
  • Collaborate with Government Officials on Legal reform efforts.
  • Participate in pre-trial processes, including bail hearings and plea negotiations.
  • Draft Legal documents and prepare charges against individuals accused of crimes.
  • Conduct appeals against court decisions, challenging acquittals or seeking adjustments to sentences where necessary.
  • Liaise with victims, witnesses and other relevant parties to ensure a thorough understanding of each case.

Note

This job isn’t all about investigating and prosecuting criminal cases! Sometimes it involves doing Legal research, drafting court documents and figuring out the best way to make a victim comfortable enough to relate their ordeal to you.

  • Entry Requirements
    Entry Requirements
    • Minimally, you would require a bachelor's degree in Law or equivalent. You would also need to pass Part A of the Singapore Bar Examinations and be a “Qualified Person” as defined in the Legal Profession Act/ the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules.
    • You also need to complete Part B of the Singapore Bar Examinations which focuses on the practical aspects of training in Litigation and Transactional Law practice, Legal drafting and Ethics.
    • You need to complete a training contract with a recognised Law Firm or Legal service, gaining hands-on experience in Legal practice.
